Postpartum Contraception ★

This document describes the need for postpartum contraception, lists best practices for providing postpartum contraception, and distinguishes between methods that are safe for immediate postpartum use, methods that become safe after 6 weeks postpartum, and methods that are not recommended for postpartum use. We also include additional information on contraception and lactation, lactational amenorrhea method (LAM), counseling on postpartum Plan B or Ella, and immediate postpartum IUD and implant insertion.
