Emergency Contraception

Patients need emergency contraception (EC) when their contraceptive method has failed, they have used their contraceptive method inconsistently, or they did not use a method while sexually active. EC needs arise quickly and providers need to be able to respond in kind. Here you will find resources to assist providers and administrative staff in providing EC as soon as possible, including tools to assist patients in selecting which form of EC is right for them.

To successfully implement a comprehensive and responsive emergency contraception protocol and practices, we encourage you to check out our PICCK materials, including:

  • Emergency Contraception Toolkit
  • Checklist for Champions: Emergency Contraception
  • Phone Room Guidance on Emergency Contraception
  • Sample Telephone Triage Protocol for Emergency Contraception
  • Sample Email Blast About Change in Emergency Contraception Protocol
  • Emergency Contraception Sample Protocols
  • Emergency Contraception One-Pager
